WOW. That is one scary front yard! We have deer within a few feet of our house (tracks), chipmunks, squirrels, birds, and the occasional moose. But these are serious animals!! YIKES you really are in the boonies!

So you have a trail camera, too? What fun! So, I have to ask… You have wild boars in TN, or are those the feral hogs/pigs that are terrorizing the US (they are a problem in AZ, too… fortunately not near me, or I would have to stop running outside since they are VERY aggressive).
LOVE the bobcat shot. Now THAT is a big bobcat, don't you think? (I think this probably answers what happened to poor pups).

I think these scary critters are kinda fun, Julia. Makes every adventure outside a wee bit exciting! Of course, I became really excited when we saw a gigantic squirrel with a white snout. Doesn't take a lot to keep me entertained! 😉

I just asked Randy about the wild boar/feral pig difference, and we're not entirely sure. Rumor around here has it that they are a mix between a Russian wild boar and a domesticated pig. Either way, they multiply like rabbits! The TWRA (TN Wildlife Resource Agency) was actually shooting the wild boar from helicopters last year. They are really taking over, but they don't seem aggressive at all.
And I agree that this bobcat is huge! I don't think it can be a cougar, though, as its tail is cropped. I do fear that this is the creature that ate our puppies. At least now I know. It is a beautiful animal, though; I can't hold it against him/her.

Oh my gosh! Nightmare. Please keep that thing away from your sweet little baby when he/she arrives! Heard they are nasty. Once read pigs are the only animals that will literally “Go Wild” ie, change their anatomy, when set loose. Their teeth get longer and they grow fur. Wilbur is cute, wold boar scares me.

They do have tusks, Stephanie, and they're called razorbacks because their hair is all bristled along their backs. Those pigs/boar are like something from a horror film. I'll be sure to keep Baby Girl away from them, or else I'll have roasted pig for supper!

I agree with you that it's a bobcat, but its body is SO long, and it's just a BIG one. Probably a 30-40 lber. That's huge for a bobcat.
I think your wild boars are what I'm thinking re: the feral hogs — they were once domesticated, and have adapted to the wild (and are producing like crazy). The ones in AZ and TX are very aggressive and HUGE. I do not want to run into one; javelinas, ok. Not those guys!

Our neighbors actually hunt and eat the wild hogs/boars. I guess I should say that ONE neighbor eats them; the same neighbor who once crawled by me in his pickup truck while I was walking and told me to watch out for “boogers.” (Apparently, bad bad men.) Ahhh — it's never a dull day out here in the boonies! 😉

Wow, how amazing that was in your yard! While I would certainly be freaked out if I saw that, it seems kinda cool to get that kind of wildlife so close to you. But easy for me to say because my wildlife are my cats.

I really love having wildlife this close to us, Leah. It makes every day feel like an adventure! And cats can be pretty ferocious; I have one named Rocky Balboa because he fights just like a man!
