How Many Petersheims Does it Take to Launch a Novel?

How Many Petersheims Does it Take to Launch a Novel?

Five, to be exact.

I became an author soon after I became a mother, and one of my goals was to make my writing part of my family’s life. This is why I write at the kitchen table instead of in a closed room (well, and there’s no telling what the girls would get into while I was in there).

This is also why I take my family to local book signings. I never want my girls to feel that writing is more important than they are. I want them to know that I write to understand my own heart and, from that understanding, to be a better wife, mom, and all around human being.

Launches make our household more chaotic than normal, though there is always a little chaos with three children running around. We’ve lived on Instant Pot meals and spaghetti. My husband does most of the dishes (he usually does them even when it’s not launch), and the floor isn’t always swept before I go to bed.

But it is such a JOY to be dream chasers together.

These four people ground me while also giving me the strength to believe the best is yet to come.

This week, a whirlwind week, I had the incredible opportunity to have a guest post on Ann Voskamp’s beautiful site, “When God Is the Top Priority for a Person and Family, All Other Relationships Fall Into Place.”

Years ago, when my seven-year-old was a newborn, I read Ann’s One Thousand Gifts, and I am not exaggerating when I say it changed my life.

I also had a guest post on another website, Proverbs 31 Ministries, about my favorite biblical character, Ruth
I write to explore the messy, hidden areas of my own heart, but it blesses me beyond measure when that exploration translates to the page and helps bring clarity to my readers’ relationships.

Thank you, my reading family, for joining me on this unpredictable, beautiful journey. I believe that, for all of us, the best is yet to come.
